We are pleased to announce that our 2016 United Space School Student has been chosen. We would like to thank the individuals who volunteered their time to be part of the interview panel and all of the students who applied to the program. Our chosen student, Logan Wood, has wrote the following introduction about himself.
My name is Logan Wood. I am a grade eleven student attending Ernest Manning High School. I feel honoured to have been chosen as the Western Canadian delegate for the FISE United Space School and I thank the Aero Space Museum of Calgary for presenting me with this opportunity. Space has always been a passion for me and I feel this experience will allow me to expand my knowledge of the space industry while representing Canada on the international level.
Academic studies are of great importance to me and I always strive to do my best throughout my school experience. In addition, I enjoy playing soccer and I am a member of the community U18 team. Music is also a huge part of my life. I have been involved with the school music program in both Junior High and High School, and have also taken lessons on my own. I am proficient at playing a number of instruments includding bassoon, guitar, piano and bass. I enjoy travelling to new places and have gone on numerous trips to Europe, Mexico and the United States.
I plan to pursue planetary sciences in my post-secondary education and I feel that attending the FISE United Space School will help me achieve this goal. I look forward to meeting the other delegates from around the world, and to the experiences that we will share together. This opportunity, as well as meeting both Chris Hadfield and Matt Golombek (from the Jet Propulsion Lab), has inspired me to pursue my dream.
