Lesley Rigg, PhD, is the Dean of Faculty of Science at the University of Calgary (since 2015). Previously, Lesley was the Vice President for Research and Innovation Partnerships at Northern Illinois University following a successful career as an academic. As the Dean of the Faculty of Science, Lesley is responsible for strategic planning, fund development, fiscal management, professional development, experiential learning, Human Resources, Alumni Engagement and various other education related activities. During her career she has won awards for teaching and promoting women in the academy, and held research grants from National Geographic, NSERC, and the National Science Foundation (USA). Currently she sits on the management council for the Bamfield Marine Science Centre, is a member of the Women in APEGA Advisory Group and was a program committee member for the 2018 conference of the Canadian Coalition for Women in Engineering, Science, Technology and Trades.
Prior to becoming an academic, Lesley spent her early years as an Air Cadet with 618 Squadron in Toronto (retired Warrant Officer first class), obtained her glider and private pilot licenses (no longer current), worked at Central Airways at the Toronto Island airport, and was a flight attendant for Saudi Arabian Airlines.
