The Hangar Flight Museum is excited to announce that we now have an Oculus Rift! The Oculus Rift is a virtual reality console that will allow us to offer interactive and immersive educational experiences that align with our mission to inspire dreams of flight and tell stories of aviation that inspire.
VR will be offered as part of the Museum’s regular programming, available on a first come, first serve basis. There may be days that will require pre-registration.
The three experiences we are currently offering are:
1943 Berlin Blitz (BBC)
In September 1943, a BBC reporter boarded a plane on an allied bombing raid over Berlin. The incredible recording he returned with forms the basis of this breathtaking experience by BBC Northern Ireland and Immersive VR Education, putting you inside a Lancaster bomber as it navigates a most dangerous journey.
BBC Home- A VR Spacewalk
Throw yourself into the void 250 miles above Earth in this award-winning VR spacewalk inspired by NASA’s training program and the astonishing experiences of its astronauts. Home- a VR Spacewalk puts you at the centre of the story, taking you on an emotional journey while delivering beautiful, heart-stopping, and memorable moments.
Rapid Fire: a brief history of flight
Rapid Fire is a brief journey through the history of aviation- as an airshow you could never see in real life. Witness the Wright Flyer’s first leap, dodge bullets from a WWI fighter, get buzzed by the leading-edge F22 Raptor fighter jet, and be nearly engulfed by the world’s largest plane!
