Message from the Executive Director
Brian Desjardins
Thank you for being by our side during this rollercoaster of a year. 2020 has seen highs and lows and we know it has been difficult for every one. It's hard to believe that we celebrated the second annual National Aviation Day event at The Hangar this year with the support of Calgary Airport Authority as the event sponsor - it feels like that event was years ago.
In the spring the Museum was closed for most of March, all of April and all of May. When we reopened in June we weren't sure what visitation was going to look like. It brought joy to us to see visitors in the Museum again and hear from them that they enjoyed their visit and had a good experience taking a safe family visit to the Museum.
In the fall we hosted a different kind of Remembrance Day, but again we have heard great feedback from our community and are encouraged to hear that you enjoyed attending the service virtually from your home. Thank you for joining us as we remember the sacrifices made and ensure we never forget.
Just in the last week there has been more excitement at The Hangar. The Curtiss Jenny has returned to The Hangar after years on display at Glenbow. Fred McCall Jr. originally built the replica on site at The Hangar but at the time we were not able to display the plane so it went to a themed exhibit at Glenbow where it has been on display since 2005. As Glenbow begins large-scale restorations and changes, now was the perfect time for the plane to return to The Hangar. Our goal is to have the Jenny on display for the opening of the 2021 Calgary Stampede in July.
